Safety standards

An EV charger carries high current for hours at a time. We treat every installation as permanent electrical infrastructure, and build it that way.

The standards we work to

We specify equipment and design installations around recognised international standards for EV charging and electrical installations.

Standard

What it covers

How we apply it

IEC 61851
Conductive charging systems for electric vehicles, AC and DC
The chargers we supply are built to this standard.
IEC 62196
Plugs, sockets and vehicle connectors, including Type 2 and CCS2
Connectors matched to vehicles on Pakistani roads, with GB/T available where needed.
IEC 60364-7-722
Electrical installation requirements for EV charging supplies
Guides circuit design, protection and earthing on every job.
IEC 61439
Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies
Applied to distribution boards on multi-charger sites.
IEC 60529 (IP rating)
Protection against dust and water
Minimum IP54 for outdoor equipment.

Protection on every installation

Residual current protection

Type A RCD with 6 mA DC fault detection, or Type B, depending on what the charger requires.

Earthing and bonding

Earth resistance tested and recorded. Dedicated earth electrodes installed where the supply arrangement calls for it.

Surge protection

Surge protective devices at the board to guard against lightning and grid switching spikes.

Isolation and emergency stop

Lockable isolators on every charger, and accessible emergency stops on DC and public sites.

Cable management

Tethered cables with holsters or cable retractors to prevent trip hazards and connector damage.

Signage and records

Clear bay signage, labelled circuits and a full test certificate at handover.

Safe work on site

Safety applies to the installation process too, especially in busy car parks and occupied buildings.
